Accurate, repeatable inspection is what separates a precision manufacturer from one that merely claims to be. At Solstrand, we treat inspection not as a bottleneck but as a core capability; it underpins the confidence our customers place in every component and assembly we ship.
Optical and laser measuring
Our inspection department is built around the Keyence IM-X1000 Series Instant Measurement System, one of the most advanced dimensional inspection platforms available. The IM-X1000 uses a 20-megapixel CMOS optical sensor combined with a multi-colour laser and low-pressure contact probe to capture up to 5,000 dimensions in a single measurement cycle, typically in seconds. Multiple parts can be measured simultaneously; the system handles complex geometries, 3D features and height profiles in one workflow.
Operator variability: gone
What makes the IM-X1000 particularly valuable in an aerospace and defence environment is its elimination of operator influence. Automated focus adjustment and sub-pixel edge detection ensure that results are consistent regardless of who runs the inspection. Every measurement is logged automatically, feeding directly into our statistical reporting and quality documentation. For our AS9100-registered processes, this level of traceability and repeatability is essential rather than optional.
Rapid setup – we’ll inspect between 4% and 100% of your batch
The system accepts programs built from CAD files, PDFs and even scanned paper drawings, which means we can set up inspection routines quickly when onboarding new parts. Combined with a measurement range of up to 500 mm, it handles everything from small brazed avionics assemblies through to larger CNC machined components without switching platforms.
Inspection results go straight into the data for the batch
Our in-house technology capability means that first-off inspection results are imported straight onto the job – ask for a First Article Inspection Report to AS 9102 for a fixed fee.
But we don’t just press the button
We complement the IM-X1000 with conventional hand gauging, micrometers and other calibrated instruments where appropriate. The principle is the same throughout: every dimension checked, every result recorded, every batch certified before it leaves our facility. Full material traceability and First Article Inspection reports are standard; we can also accommodate customer-specific inspection requirements and reporting formats.
